From David Bower, October 2011

I am trying to find out more about Tom Bradley, the author of the Yorkshire River books etc. I know he was born in 1851 and have found him in the expected censuses, except for the 1891 census. My last known reference for him is in the 1901 census, when he was living with his widowed mother in Bradley Street, Bingley and was then described as a Variety Theatre Manager, aged 49. Earlier he was described as a surveyor. I should be grateful for any information any of your members you can supply about him, particularly from 1901 on. David Bower.

From David Dawson - July 2011

I am trying to trace paintings by my Grandfather R.A.Dawson, and his brother C.F.Dawson, both born and brought up in Bingley in the late 1800s. This is for a family record to show what they achieved, rather like some people research their family tree. They were both excellent artists but because they were so good, most of their paintings were easily sold. Very few paintings remain with the family except small holiday sketches and some smaller pictures. I have a website which gives examples of their signatures and a bit of their history - http://www.mts.net/~davidbee/ . If anyone has, or knows of, a painting by either of them I should love to receive an email/digital photo and perhaps find out any history concerning it. (One painting photo I received via my website was traded by the then owner in the 1950s to a coal merchant in lieu of payment for a load of coal!)
Thank you in hope of success, David Dawson.

From Christopher Bollinger, March 2011

Hello i hope you can assist me. I am trying too find a place (building) called Rushworth Hall or similar in Bingley? I met people in Australia in the 1970s by the name of Arthur & Mary Stringer who told me they once resided there .I believe in the 1970s it was divided into flats. I think it may have been built in the 15th or 16th century however i am not certain of this. if you are able too assist me & have a photograph on file & any historical information. I would be most greatfull if you could email me a copy.
Thank you for your time, keep up the good work, kind regards Chris Bollinger

Help wanted by David Green, February 2011

My Grandmother's brother was a Thomas Hemmant (wife Carrie) who is on the 1901 & 1911 census in Bingley at 102 Main St & Heathcliffe respectively. I have access to a photograph of him as 'The Orginator of the Famous Bingley Blend'. His father (Thomas) & brothers ( George & John William) were Grocers/Drapers in Pontefract at BelksCourt/Beastfair in Pontefract. Can you throw any light on my ancestor or make any suggestions?
Kind Regards, David Green

A request from Anthony Gordon, February 2011

I am an avid wrestling fan, and I'm currently trying to find out information on the following 2 local wrestlers (sadly now both deceased): Alan Dennison and Masambula.
i understand they lived in Denholme and Oxenhope respectively, but I would like to know exactly where they lived, and if they are both buried in their respective home villages?
Any information, or pointers as to where I can find out more, would be very gratefully received.
Many thanks, Anthony

Hello folks. I am at present trying to research my Grans genealogy and have hit a wall in so much as she was a foundling, being left on the doorstep of a house in Gilstead or Baildon. I can trace her from 1911 when she had been adopted and was called May Robinson. It is from her birth in 1893 to 1911 which is a total mystery. Story has it she was put into the workhouse but have checked Keighley and nothing fits. Do you know if Bingley was still open in 1901 and if any records exist as she may have been there at this time. Also the address of the workouse would be a help.
Appreciate any help you may be able to offer. Thanks. Anne.

I was born in Hill Street in 1943 and am now researching my family history. My great grandmother died at 4 Victoria Street, after living at 7 Nelson St. I believe my grandfather and my mother worked in the local mills,he being a woolcomber. My great grandfather was killed by a horse and wagon in 1866 and died in Bradford Infirmary. To date I haven't been able to get any details. The coroner did not seem to record the incident nor the Bradford papers report it. If you have any publications to help me with my search I would be glad to purchase them.Warmest Greetings TGL
